It is a discipline that, with an extremely rigorous surveying method, provides a tool for the analysis, study and reconstruction of both ancient architecture (civil, military, funeral, cultural, etc.) and the elements of material culture preserved with it and deposited over the course of time, often in complex stratigraphic sequences.
